Clean Eating

T G I F!! Yes, it is time for the weekend, but that does not mean it is time to break from clean eating. For many of us, the weekend is a time of relaxation and celebration. But let's face it, a weekend of cheats can totally derail many of us from the best of intentions. So, what is one to do? Start off by remaining focused on your goals. Set small milestones to aid in continued successes. Drink lots of water to keep the body well hydrated. Dehydration is a key component in overeating - the body mistakes thirst for hunger, triggering food cravings. Always have easy to transport snacks available. Before parties/gatherings with family and friends, try to eat a small meal to avoid over-indulging in the sweet/junk food. I typically pack a small bag of clean food to take to gatherings. Some of my staples: carrots, apple, banana, nuts, and 1/2 natural nut butter sandwich, Shakeology, and more. I reach for my food choices first. If asked by other party-goers why I am refraining from the provided food, I am quick to say I have dietary restrictions. Enough said. Normally, no one asks another question. The ones that do want to know more about my fitness regimen and mealplans - leads to some awesome conversations. Many of us simply feel pressured into eating what the general population accepts as normal. I have taken the approach that the health of my body is utmost important and I will do whatever it takes to preserve longevity. We can still enjoy a fun-filled weekend with family and friends without feeling deprived.
